Bio

A combination of fortuitous timing and a long-standing love for the cannabis plant led Sohum to his career in the cannabis industry.

Born just outside downtown Denver, he graduated from Cherry Creek High School in 2007. He earned dual BSBA degrees in Finance and Management Information Systems from the University of Arizona's Eller College of Management in 2013, with a minor in Spanish.

He is currently pursuing an MS in Cybersecurity at NYU Tandon School of Engineering, expected May 2028.

He started as a budtender at a medical dispensary in Colorado, then turned down a job offer from a major tobacco company to work in cannabis. His early venture, the Cannabis Commodities Exchange, launched in 2014 and was suspended in 2016 when he decided the market was not ready.

Experience

  1. 2014–2016
    Cannabis Commodities Exchange

    Co-founded and launched at the 2014 High Times Cannabis Cup in Denver. Suspended in late 2016.

  2. 2015–2018
    The Cannabist (Denver Post)

    Cannabis critic. Wrote more than 20 articles, mostly reviews. Remained a freelance writer until the paper pulled its resources in 2018.

  3. 2016–
    The Grow-Off

    Co-founded the first science- and data-driven cannabis cultivation competition with Jake Browne and Sam Sandt. The first competition complied with state rules, and the Marijuana Enforcement Division praised it.

  4. 2016–2018
    MassRoots, Inc.

    Started as an investor relations and business development consultant, then joined full-time as Director of Investor Relations. Took over business development and oversight of business products in 2018. Left in December 2018.

  5. 2019–
    Durban's World

    Animated series created with illustrator and animator Ben Custodia (BenOfficial). Produced through Durban Creative Media, which also offers freelance illustration, animation, design, and voice-over.
